Fiction[]

A Real American Hero comics continuity - Devil's Due[]

Immediately after being assigned his codename and introduced to the rest of the Joe team, Barrel Roll was deployed on a recon mission to Cobra Island. Taking the opportunity to disguise himself as a Raptor-Viper Glider Pilot, he was able to be "rescued" by a Cobra chopper and infiltrate the island.[1] During Cobra Commander's speech, he sneaked into Server Room ASP1 and opened a port for Hacker, Dial-Tone and Firewall before being interrupted by a Tele-Viper. Escaping through a maintenance crawlspace and fleeing through the building, he stopped a pair of Crimson Guards by rolling a generator down the stairs onto them, but was cornered by Tomax and Xamot. Setting off the fire alarm as a distraction, he managed to make his way to the beach to prepare for extraction.[2]

Toys[]

Barrel Roll (Carded)

Barrel Roll has had three toys.

The first appeared in the Spy Troops line, and came with Cobra armor disguise pieces, a sniper rifle and a Cobra hang-glider that could be converted to a GI Joe hang-glider. The second figure was a repaint of the first, which included everything from the first release except for the disguise pieces, and was part of the Valor Versus Venom line. The third figure was a Direct-to-Consumer, and came with an oversized sniper rifle and lost his youthful look.

Trivia[]

  • Barrel Roll is the brother of the Cobra sniper Black Out and the Joes' forward air controller, Bombstrike.
  • In real life, Dwight Stall was Hasbro's lead designer for the 3¾" toyline. He lent both his face and his birthplace to the Barrel Roll character.[3]
