It is hard to imagine but captured Cobra operatives claim that the monstrous fish-men creatures, dubbed the Bio-Vipers, used to be Cobra frogmen who "volunteered" to undergo the gene-transforming process that turned them to what they are now. The process was pioneered by Dr. Mindbender and gave them many of the abilities that the world's greatest sea predators possess. They now have the sharp vision of morays, razor-sharp piranha teeth, pressure-resistant thermal rockskin, and body-grabbing tentacles. With all these new abilities, they have "sacrificed" so much, not only their appearance and biological makeup but their humanity too. Their minds are so far gone, they are rabid animals more than people. So rabid that they are notoriously difficult to control, Cobra had to install computer-integrated override chips within their brains just so that they don't turn on their masters.
