Fu Manchu is an immortal master criminal based in China. His son Shang-Chi wages a long war against him.

Fiction

Action Force (British) Comics continuity

For forty years Fu-Manchu was opposed by Sir Denis Nayland Smith and his colleague Petrie. But Shang-Chi knew nothing of this as he was raised by his father, who pretended to be a noble man dedicated to world peace. He then ordered Shang-Chi to kill Petrie. Shang-Chi believed he had done so (though it was only a replicant) but this brought him into contact with Nayland Smith who told him the truth of his father. Shang-Chi joined with Nayland Smith, Petrie, Black Jack Tarr an ex soldier and Clive Reston, a smooth talker in the war against Fu Manchu.[1]

Notes

  • Fu Manchu is one of the few characters from the Marvel Universe to have appeared in an Action Force or G.I. Joe story. Normally the two are treated as completely separate continuities.
  • Fu Manchu's appearance in "Meditations in Red" served to introduce Shang-Chi in preparation for a reprint of his adventures from Master of Kung Fu volume 1 #29 to #31 in Action Force issue #18 to issue #29.
  • Fu Manchu and many of the characters around him were originally created for a series of novels by Sax Rohmer. The comic rights to the novels were purchased by Marvel in the 1970s who combined them with their original character of Shang-Chi.
