Team Mike (domestic recon), consisting of Barbeque, Deadcheck, Flakjack, Halfstep, Ratrace and Sandcrab, arrives in Springfield. The town is apparently abandoned and the team is investigating an energy spike. The Joes suspect it might be a piece of Cobra machinery left behind when Springfield was vacated. Team Mike's communications are down and cannot contact The Pit. The energy spike is traced to its source - a cinema. Team Mike find the big screen still working - a zombie movie still playing. Unknown to the Joes, there is someone watching them with night-vision goggles. As one of the Joes turns off the projector, it blows up and the Joes are attacked by a mysterious assailant.

Within six seconds, all six Joes of Team Mike are killed. Out of the shadows steps out Krake. He is then congratulated by one of the Cobra Council members.

General notes

  • This issue shipped with four covers:
  • The series was initially titled G.I. Joe Cobra: Cobra Civil War, intending to be a limited series about the ascension of a new Cobra Commander. However, as the limited series was also a cross-over series with the new G.I. Joe and G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes, it was decided to re-title the series as the second volume of G.I. Joe: Cobra.
