In 2002, following the success of both Hasbro's The Real American Hero Collection and the new G.I. Joe comic book by Image/Devil's Due Publishing, G.I. Joe returned to toy aisles nationwide in G.I. Joe vs. Cobra.

A continuation of the A Real American Hero continuity from the 1980s and 1990s, the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra franchise featured both new molds and redecos of older molds. The Devil's Due comic series, while not specifically written around the toy series, did eventually feature several of the line's new characters and revamped character appearances.

Toys

As the name of the toyline suggests, the theme of the toys pitted G.I. Joe against Cobra. Most of the carded action figures were released as two-packs, containing one G.I. Joe and one Cobra action figure.
