A Real American Hero comics continuity - Marvel Comics
There was never any acknowledgement in the plot of extra, unnamed Joes in the comic. Certainly not an army of them like in the cartoon. Nevertheless, generic-looking troopers in green uniforms that cannot be identified with any named G.I. Joe made infrequent appearances as background characters.[2] This may be an issue with the artwork more than anything else.

Trivia
- The Greenshirts are named after the Redshirts in Star Trek. A red shirt was the uniform of security officers who had minor or non-speaking roles in landing parties and usually got killed to establish the threat level. Consequently the term "Redshirt" has become a cultural term for expendable background characters.
