Hardball was first released carded as part of the 1988 series of A Real Arnerican Hero toys. He was also sold in 1989 and was discontinued domestically in 1990. Appearance: blue baseball cap; white baseball shirt with blue trim and red "G.I. Joe" on right chest; grey undershirt sleeves; black half-gloves; orange-brown pants with light green belt and holster; black boots Accessories: very large olive-green backpack (with sculpted "U.S.") full of grenades; grey grenade launcher with two grips and removable rotating barrel. |

- Working names: Thumper, High-Pop, Line-Drive and Lob-Shot.
- The baseball theme goes far beyond his codename and uniform. His file name is a play on "Abner Doubleday," the reputed inventor of baseball, while his birthplace is home to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
