When Lt. Falcon was sent to The Slaughterhouse for irresponsible actions at G.I. Joe Headquarters, Mercer and his fellow Renegades were on hand to meet him. Because of a Cobra insignia on his vest, Mercer was initially mistaken for a Cobra by Falcon. Sgt. Slaughter had the Renegades train Falcon to be a better Joe. A mission came up where the Renegades had to infiltrate Cobra Island to find out what Cobra is planning. His knowledge of the island and layout of the Terror Drome proved invaluable. The group were able to escape with the knowledge of the existence of a group called Cobra-La. However, Mercer can't provide any more information as the intel was beyond him. Much later when more about Cobra-La is learned, he participated in the invasion of Cobra-La's domain.[1]
DiC Animated Series[]
Mercer's loyalty for the G.I. Joe team was put to the test during a skirmish that resulted in the loss of his backpack. A decimated Overkill discovered a note inside containing the location of a secret peace conference, promising to reveal it to Cobra Commander in exchange for an upgrade.
When questioned over the incident, Duke believes that Mercer didn't sell the team out, but confines him to stockade until the conference is over.
