Overlord is a Cobra character from the A Real American Hero series.

When you're a disgruntled member of an organization like Cobra, there isn't really a whole lot of options to choose from for a post-terrorist career. You can either just bear with what's left in your lot in life or make an escape from Cobra Island with a high certainty of dying in the attempt. Or maybe you can decide to join an underground conspiracy formed by Overlord, a charismatic Cobra Command officer who has managed to sway many others to his cause to topple Cobra Commander and a return to the values espoused by their original leader.

Fiction

A Real American Hero continuity - Devil's Due

Overlord is the code name of Mikhail Derenko. He was first released as an action figure in 1990, packaged with the "Dictator" attack tank/hovercraft. He is suspected of being a former Crimson Guard member. Regardless, he actually managed to take control of Cobra for some time. He advocated 'traditional Cobra values' but this was just to mask his own personal grab for power.^[1]

Overlord appeared in the Devil's Due G.I. Joe series. He is responsible for the death of Chuckles, murdering him on the beach of Cobra Island in issue #25. Moments later, Skidmark and Duke move in to arrest Overlord. A helicopter falls on Skidmark, killing him.^[2] He later goes to work for the Jugglers. He is sent to Duke's secret base in Iceland. There he mortally wounds Scanner, and locks Duke, Scarlett, and Snake-Eyes in a vault. Scanner uses the last of his strength to activate the base's self-destruct, killing himself and Overlord.

Overlord appeared as a boss in the 1991 G.I. Joe video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Generation 1
	A Real American Hero (1990) Overlord has had only one action figure based on his character. He was sold in 1990 together with the Dictator vehicle. He came with a helmet and two wrist claws. Appearance: black slicked-back hair; silver monocle; gold face mask; orange vest with gold shoulder armor and black gloves; gold pants with red belt; black padded waistpiece Accessories: gold, slightly crested helmet; two short, gold, webbed claws attaching to wrists. Trivia

Working names included Cobra Khan, Braco Dracommen and Carbo Medmornac.
Overlord's only animated appearances were in 1990 toy commercials opposite a live-action Sgt. Slaughter; it's implied that Overlord is Cobra's leader (or at least a high-ranking officer).
His preliminary filecard suggested that Destro had defeated Cobra Commander in combat, leading to Overlord's attempt to usurp control of Cobra.^[3]
