Snarky and eccentric, Private Nicky "Tunnel Rat" Lee is the team medic from the Renegades series. Spending much of youth exploring tunnels and sewers, Tunnel Rat joined the army in order to avoid jail time. He is one of the key members of the Joes.

Even before joining the Army, Nicky Lee, in his own words, spent a lot of time in the dirt. On the day he was recruited to join Shana O'Hara's visit to Cobra Industries, Lady Jaye found Private Lee crawling out of a bush and chewing an edible root.
The moment he met the rest of the team, Wallace Weems quickly commented on the smell surrounding him and called him "Tunnel Rat". To his annoyance, the name stuck. By the time of the team's first mission in Springfield, however, he had willingly adopted it as a codename.
