Zap provided firepower support in the Burkhart rescue mission. Once Cobra has retreated and the Joe Team finds out that the enemy base is rigged to blow up, Zap finds his limited flying skills with helicopters tested once more.[5] His expertise in demolitions came in very handy when a radical survivalist activated the timer to a bomb of nuclear nature. He worked together with Grunt in disabling it.[6] Zap was on duty in the Fort Wadsworth motor pool when Clutch, Steeler, and Breaker arrived with a battle robot captured from Cobra in a raid.[7]

When a survival extremist named Wingfield gets the attention of the Joe Team, Zap was called in to defuse a nuclear warhead buried under his compound. He was aided by Grunt and they successfully deactivated the bomb with seconds to spare.[8] Zap was deployed as part of the inner ring defenses assigned to protect a space shuttle launch from Cobra. During the battle against S.E.A. Legs and Amphibious Assault Guns, Zap and Short-Fuze used their anti-armor weapons to great effect. When the Joe team assaulted Cobra's Undersea Base, Zap, Short-Fuze, and Rock 'n Roll provided cover fire with the heavy weapons.[9]

Zap, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes were deployed as the roof insertion team on a mission to neutralise a Cobra stronghold in mid-town Manhattan. The three were captured as the roof was a trap, and transported to Springfield, Vermont. Zap and Scarlett were kept drugged in a cell, but managed to escape with the help of a young boy named Billy. They attempted to rescue Snake Eyes, only to find that he had released himself from the Brainwave Scanner. All three Joes managed to escape Springfield.[10]

Zap as he appeared in the animated series.

Zap was on hand in the base to witness Cobra use the M.A.S.S. to abduct several world leaders on air. When the Duke was found alive and well, he was there to greet his commander.[11]

During the recovery of pieces of the fractured Cobra Weather Dominator weapon, Zap was assigned guard duty at G.I. JOE headquarters to protect the hydromaster component. Unfortunately, the Cobra ninja Storm Shadow stole the part back.

Zap was later part of a unit sent by Colonel Sharp to stop inner city gang members from harassing a mayoral candidate and intimidating potential voters. His team later discovered that Cobra was using the youth gangs to gain public sympathy, and thus electoral votes, for the harassed politician who himself had been actively conspiring with Cobra.

When Flint, Lady Jaye, Airtight, Dusty, Alpine and Bazooka were trapped into a danger-filled Cobra fortress known as the "Fun House", Zap's explosives expertise were called up to demolish thickly armored steel doors that prevented the team from rescuing their six comrades. After numerous attempts, Zap succeeded in breaching the entrance with high-explosive charges, just minutes before the entire base self-destructed.
